I am listening Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharah's Painted from Memory. I like this album a lot. Could anybody give some recommendation on others CD similar to this phenomenal album.

EC's next album is supposed to be all piano-based ballads with some strings in the background. Comes out in Nov.

This is sort of way out in left field, but if you're looking for vocals accompanied by strings, check out Scott Walker (guy in my avatar). He's sort of the existential Frank Sinatra. Best bet is the recently-remastered "Boy Child" collection of his early 60s material. Love it or hate it stuff, I love it!

Hmmm... I'd second amplified heart. You also might want to check out a guy by the name of John Pizzareli... I don't have any of his albums but I downloaded a couple of samples tracks from Telarc's website and he sounds kind of like what you are looking for.
