One man's half-broken junk is another man's pure-playback treasure!!!
I just scored an Otari MX 5050 BII for $75 - the recording head is all but destroyed, and the internal repro amp is busted, along with one of the vu meters. there is also a ton of cosmetic damage. However, the mechanics are 100%!
Since I never plan on recording, and I was going to get an external tape head stage anyways, this was the find of the century! The guys at NJ Factory Service gave the servos a clean bill of health
does anyone have any feedback on whether Doc's upgrades are worth the cost? will a Flux Magnetics playback head improve the sound enough to justify the $650 price tag?
