Is there a way in OS X to launch an application using a keyboard shortcut? In Windows I can assign keystrokes to launch apps, I can't seem to figure it out on my Mac. I'd like to set command+s to Safari, command+q to Quickbooks, etc.

There are a ton of ways. Probably most customizable is Keyboard Maestro. Out of the dedicated launchers, Quicksilver is too bloated for me. I use Launchbar (which was just $9.99 at MacZot), or would Butler if I needed a free/shareware app.
