I have a lot of "random" music of various genres. Some of it is free from artists that aren't popular, while others are a few tracks off an album. I generally don't store an entire album on my PC (or player) because I don't like every single song.

So, what folder structure do you recommend to organize the music?

I appreciate all suggestions, thanks!

Here is how I organize mine.
Music --> Artist --> Album --> Tracks

When dealing with large amounts of mp3 files, I prefer to have as much info as possible in the lowest level folder. How you sort them otherwise is just a matter of personal preference.

I always include the name, title, year, and bitrate in my rips:

Wayne Shorter - Schizophrenia [1967] (lame ape)

All mine are mp3, as my hard disk player only supports mp3.
I will eventually have the bitrate in every folder, but I don't feel like doing it anytime soon.

Personally, I'd recommend (if you don't have complete albums) putting all of the information from the IDE3 tags in the file name. You can do this in huge batches and put all sorts of information on your mp3s usingThe Godfather. It's a great tagger and I use

Artist - Album - Track Number - Title

for my file names. You can put almost anything entered into the IDE3 tag in the file name really easily with this program. And it's free!

Just thinking about it... what do you guys think of this folder Structure?

(Letters not final, as I am FAR LESS likely to have many in the end of the alphabet

)

Albums
----Album name
--------Songs
Singles
----A-H
--------Songs
----I-R
--------Songs
----S-Z
--------Songs

Any suggestions for the above?

Thanks!

That seems good, if you have a good chunk of singles. I, however, don't have any singles, as I only get full albums at a time.

Just thinking again...
I could quite easily find myself wondering "hmm is the song I want part of the full album or is it a single?"

What do you guys think of listing ALL the songs under the singles section, and for albums, use m3u playlists? iHP-120 recognizes up to 200, and I HIGHLY doubt I will reach that limit.

Any input on this new thinking?
