I bought this Oral irrigator (redipik) from amazon last month. This thing is amazing, it floss out food & junk from your teeth much better than flossing and it's easy to use too. My gum bleeds for the first couple of days but it's ok now. No more flossing for me.

Btw this is the amazon link It attached to the faucet. There's also another one (showerpik) which attached to your shower.

an oral irrigator should be an adjunct to, not a replacement for, flossing. proper flossing can clean between the teeth and below the gumline in a way that the water jet simply cannot reach. both are important aids to minimizing plaque build up, and good periodontal and oral health. this is more than a cosmetic issue but is an important part of overall health as poor dental health can potentially lead to larger health problems such as cardiac issues as oral bacteria can make their way into the bloodstream and take up residence on the valves. i think the water pic type devices with their pulsating streams might be more effective but doing something is better than doing nothing. other useful tools are sulca brushes and a sonic care toothbrush.
and to make this more head-fi related, since your ears are connected to your oral pharynx by the eustachian tubes, good oral hygeine might help keep your ears in better shape. or at least the converse might be true.

also, any bacteria from the water pic can get into your bloodstream via your gums (especially if they bleed). these endotoxins can really mess you up.

I don't know man, when I crank mine up on high, I can feel the jet of water spraying between my teeth. And out the other side. I do both sides, just to be thorough. I have one of the pulsating ones from Waterpik. It has all sorts of attachments too, for going under the gumline, cleaning the tongue, etc. It's great. Or at least, it was until it stopped working. They are very unreliable. This is my second one.

I don't know about below the gumline ( I guess I left it for my dentist to clean it for me

) but for between the teeth, this oral irrigator is the best thing since slice bread.

Piccolonamek, you might want to try this thing when your next waterpik died. This thing don't involve any machine/electricity. No pulsating and fancy function though. You adjust the pressure from your faucet.

@$&@!*^!!!!!

I need one of these. I'm currently suffering through braces due to lots of negligence from when I was in my teens, and it's a right pain in the ass to clean between teeth well. I had no idea these kinds of things were around, thank you so much!

I know what you mean, I wish I know this irrigator when I got my braces. It'll made cleaning much easier, especially after you eat noodle

Normal commensals of the mouth do not produce endotoxin. The resulting transient bacteremia after flossing is nothing to worry about for the immunocompetent.

Hmm... so maybe they should make an oral irrigator that shoots a jet of Listerine into your gums.

yeah, my parents had a waterpik years ago. the tips could get pretty nasty with mildew and god knows what else from being wet all the time.
