Optical SPDIF to Firewire converter???

Yep, makes perfect sense. Looks like it will be 5.1 analog inputs then...depending on how much this thing costs.

Oh and as to whether or not the Beyer guy understood me, here is what I asked him and his response:

Me - Did you say that the Headzone unit uses a Firewire input for the audio?

Beyer guy - Yes, when connected to a CPU, the protocol is firewire.

This was after he had told me that the inputs were just like the pro model - Firewire and 5.1 analog only.

In the BD =280&tx_ttnews[backPid]=121&cHash=df0612e41a]press realease here they say:

Quote:

The processor is linked by digital cable with a commercially available DVD player or AV receiver

If there's no comercially available DVD player with firewire out this really does suggest a TOSLINK or S/PDIF input on the Headzone. But unfortunately they don't provide details or a photo of the back panel...

It sure seems to me that Beyer has their wires crossed up on this one, and needs to officially clear up what connectivity will be on the consumer device.

I've been in the audio hobby for 32 years now....my rule #1 is to take the word of the manufacturer's rep who answers your question about a device not yet on the shelves with a huge grain of salt. Believe the published product spec first......and in this case, that would be simple if the press release specified S/PDIF, but all it says is "digital".

Well, it seems that my concerns may have been premature. The same BD rep just got back to me and indicated that the Headzone Cinema model will indeed have an optical input.

That makes good sense. It would allow easy use with movies via the TOSLINK and with surround DVD-A/SACD's with the analog inputs.

All's well that ends well. Now for the pricing, right?
