Optical output soundcards?

You can also see if you can scrunge up one of those Xitel Storm Platinums, or one of the cards Aureal made themselves on Ebay, for about $20 nowdays. It's not much for gaming today, but if all you need is music and the optical, these cards are awesome for MD recording in the consumer level because they let you manually set the optical out to 44.1, with no back and forth sampling conversions.

Or you can buy one of these thingies that convert optical to electrical, I use one of those b/w my NAD 502 and my Sharp portable MD recorder. No clue where to get one though around here, in Germany they ran around $ 30 or so.

oh no....not another one that thinks coaxial digital is better than optical digital....really....there isnt much of a quality difference between the two....trust me...

actually i think im considering the fortissimo II. I found it locally at a small computer shop and its got all i need, PLUS ITS EXTREMELY CHEAP COMPARED TO THE AUDIGY PLATINUM!!!

Go the fortissimo 2

optical vs digital quality - it's digital, not analogue, you'll need test equipment to be able to measure any difference :P
