Since it appears that I cant bypass the Fiio X3 dac into the HA-2 I think I'll by pass the on amp and just get the PM-3. Shame the Oppo doesn't have coax in but you can't have everything.

Haven't heard the HA-2.
I see one NZ shop listing 5 different colours for the PM-3. Black, red, white, blue and green.  Talking to them today they're expecting first shipment very soon.

My walkman A17 manual says (works same for A15 & A16) it has digital output and have seen pics of this.

i also hve a fiio x3 but use it for the automobile

, i love the sound of my walkman out from the jack nice rendering of details esp with hi-res classical music pieces (FLAC) sounds great, but my Cans seem to need some juice

I have a fiio L5 Line-out for walkman (analogue, 3.5mm plug), i will later purchase the WMC-NWH10 (i have seen it at amazon for $55 USD, crazy sony prices a la apple)
