I've got a $1800 (Canadian) budget for a DAC/AMP setup and I've narrowed down my choices to two units. I'll mainly be using it to drive my HD800S (possibly my A5+ speakers if I decide to keep them). The two units are the Questyle CMA400i and the RME ADI-2.

  • Pros of the RME ADI-2 - well renowned and "Made in Germany"

  • Cons - no balanced inputs with a steep learning curve.

  • Pros of the CMA400i - balanced + cheaper.

  • Cons - haven't heard much from this brand so I'm somewhat hesitant.

I just want to get some opinions regarding Questyle. What's the build quality like? Since it's balanced should I prioritize getting it over the RME? By that I mean would I be doing my HD800S a disservice by not going balanced?
