I love my Schiit Audio Bifrost and Lyr 2, but I still want to listen to music with speakers. Currently, I am using amplified monitors and, shortly, a DIY subwoofer. I am dissatisfied with amplified monitors for there is limited options and the better ones are expensive. My thought is that it is cheaper for comparable or better to use a receiver to power DIY non-amplified speakers, eg. Onkyo TX-8020 with parts express Tritrix speaker kit.

Anyone disagree with the above statement? Is the Onkyo garbage or is there a better alternative? It is my intent to use an input for Lyr 2 as the source.

I appreciate you consideration and suggestions.

My two cents.
I think the Onkyo with the Tritrix speaker kit is in the right direction.
As the Onkyo comes with a dedicated sub-woofer output

My tiny brain is not sure about "It is my intent to use an input for Lyr 2 as the source"
You mean your going to connect the RCA line-output from the Lyr 2 to the RCA line-input on the receiver (Onkyo), sounds good.

You know, I keep getting this vibe when posting on the forum that I am vague or something.

Ha! Reading that statement, it was ambiguous. Sorry.

Yes, my tube amp, Lyr 2, using the preamp out as an input on the Onkyo.

Thank you and very much appreciated.

Another interesting idea might be to use the Lyr2 as a preamp for a DIY TPA3116 chip amp, I recommend the one made by Sure. There's a huge thread in the Audio Karma forums. I can post a link if you're interested.

Ok, here's the link: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=574806 it's a massive thread, if you want the cliff notes version, let me know. I have nothing against Onkyo, by the way, I have a TX-NR808 that has given me years of faithful service.
