Opera Internet Browser

I just thought that I would share my love of Opera. I also wanted to encourage people to use it. I've been using Opera for about one and a half years, and every time I use someone else's computer, I feel empty when I can't use the internet with Opera. Some of my favorite features include the awesomezoom function, the super intuitive find function, the magic wand, and the easy-to-use keyboard shortcuts. So if you're an opera fanboy, let your vote be counted. And if you have any questions I'd like to answer them for you. I know this sounds like a big plug for the browser, but I felt it was about time to express how much I love it.

Oh, and Opera 9.2 is hands down the best to date, I love the speed dial function.

I tried opera once, but it crashed 4 times, loading 4 different pages. Back to trustworthy personalized firefox, it works for me.

I've been using Opera for a while now after Firefox started turning into a resource hog. I love the mouse gestures where you right-click and just make a quick movement to the left to go back and to the right to go forward. It makes browsing a snap. The gestures alone will keep me from ever going back to IE or FF.

I've been using Opera since 2000.

Frankly, rendering engine aside, I think Firefox is pathetic. It lags behind the Opera feature set by at least 6 years, and in the time it's taken FF to get from 1.0 to 2.0, Opera was rewritten from scratch TWICE.

But can"t you download a mouse gesture extention?

Also, the only thing keeping me from Opera is its lack of ad-blocking.

haven't seen anything for banner ads, but opera has a far more robust and flexible popup blocker than firefox, configurable on a per-site basis.

As for disabling flash, you go all plugins disabled or none right now, but also on a site-by-site basis.

I have javascript disabled for head-fi because i hate the constantly reloading sponsor banner.

I'm on a Mac and except for possibly OmniWeb, Opera is the most feature-rich browser there is. Three things still irritate me though - lack of full Services support (better than Firefox and Camino, but behind Safari and OmniWeb), lack of a few Firefox extensions like Google Notebook (same as everyone else), and most problematic - lack of instant inline spell-checking (why oh why???). It's sure fast and stable though. Far more than Firefox on either platform (try reading large PDFs in Firefox). Love Speed Dial too.

A few months back someone did a satisfaction survey and Opera users were the "happiest". Can't find the link now though.

Please fix that spell-check though.

Love Opera. Been using it for a year and a half. I love how the toolbars are so customizable, the default set up is way to bloated imo.

Yeah, I keep configuring mine to look a bit like Opera 5.5.

Opera 5.5 was a fine browser, worth the $30 i paid for it. Firefox 2.0 has tab handling almost as good as opera 5.5 had seven years ago.

So much faster than firefox, and so much cleaner IMO...opera owns. Some flash sites don't load right though....but it's one in like 50, and somethings lag when UPLOADING large files to my lunarpages server, so I have to use IE strictly for that...but otherwise, opera owns.

I don't use speed dial, don't really see what the point is.

But i have 17 tabs open right now, and several of them have been open for a month or more.

Yes, I agree. Shortcuts are overrated, I use the personal bar to put links of the most vistited sites I just middle click or just click and bam. No need for speed dial.
