I'm trying to configure the 'check if page has been updated on server' cache settings but I don't fully understand the implications.
AIUI:
a) reload will always check the webserver, regardless of the cache setting
b) pages that update automatically (e.g. newsnow) are unaffected
c) EITHER
a comparison is made between the cached version and the webserver only when I move back to a tab, and the cache setting determines how often,
OR
pages are checked and updated in the background, again the cache setting determines how often.
Am I right with a), b)? Which of c) is correct?
I'm happy with a long cache time and manually refreshing pages, however, I seem to have problems with Head-Fi login when the cache is used; refreshing doesn't always work. This implies that I have to leave the cache setting on 'always update page', which slows down the browser.
Any ideas on suitable settings and another way round the login issue?
TIA
