This Friday I should be receiving all my new Opera Audio equipment....

However, I do not have a cartridge for the turntable yet.

Can anyone recommend an MM cartridge for the following turntable:

This is the rest of the system I will be getting:

I've never heard the record deck, but have certainly heard the Droplet CDP with appropriate ancillaries and thought it sounded wonderful.
Have fun!

Depends on how much do you want to spend and what type of tonearm(s) are you fitting. Something like the Goldring 1042, The Sumiko Blue Point Special or one of the Ortofon Rhondo's maybe?

The Grado Reference and Statement are warm MM carts that should go nicely with the Consonance TT. An acquanitance of mine is the Consonance dealer
in my area, and I got to spend some time with their products.
The Droplet 5.0 was totally lacking at the bottom end but it sure is purty and the internal wiring is nice.

of those two, it is a question of gain.
the statement is low output (0.5mV), the reference is high output (5mV)
the statement is thought to be better than the reference at each level

it's the PM-1 phono so i can only get an MM

give me an option at around ~150, ~250 and ~350....

i reckon the Goldring 1042 is probably the best option around ~350.... the stylus is replaceable on it which is another plus.......

I also have to buy all the other accessories such as a carbon fiber brush and record cleaning supplies...

i reckon i'll go buy an old used turntable and old vacuum and make a record cleaning machine like this:

http://www.teresaudio.com/haven/cleaner/cleaner.html

-----------------------------------
what are the basic necessities?

from what i can gather i will need:

-record brush
-Vinly cleaning solution (i could make my own)
-stylus cleaner
-force gauge
------------------------------------

How useful are the following-
-record clamp
-Cardas Sweep Record
http://www.ttvj.com/index.php?main_p...&products_id=5

also what brush do you guys recommend?

For the 4 gram,6 gram, and 8 gram Moerch tonearms you will need a high compliance cartridge like the Audio Technica AT440MLa ,Goldring 1042 ,or the Ortofon 540MKII ,(the Audio Technica is the deal and the Ortofon is the sleeper). For the 14 gram Moerch tonearm you will need a lower compliance cartridge like a Stanton 681EEE MKIII ,(another sleeper).

The QED/Goldring/whateverlabelitcomeswith one with two rows of carbon fibres and a broad velvet strip in between. Looks like this: http://www.goldring.co.uk/accessorie...isccleaner.htm

I bought my first one of these some 20 years ago (under QED label then), found it to be much better than everything I had tried before including the smaller standard carbon fibre brushes, on which the fibres tend to break or come off rather frequently in comparision and which also clean less efficiently. And the velvet strip of the QED/Goldring/whatever also nicely doubles as stylus brush...

Whether you really need a record washing machine would very much depend on the condition of the vinyl you have or intend to buy: E.g., if you already have or might get a whole collection that has been played wet before, I'd deem it a sensible investment - but if you only get a grubby record once in a while, I'd rather hand-wash or search for a local dealer who offers a cleaning service. I'd definitely recommend to invest in some good inner sleeves (personally, I like the Nagaoka No. 102), though - at least for all those lps that only come in standard paper inner sleeves.

As for the clamp, it's worth a try - not only for taming extra-wobbly lps, but also generally for its sonic impact, which differs from table to table (especially in combination with the platter & mat type).

Greetings from Hannover!

well the plan was to make a record machine for about $40-50 - i already know where i can pick up a cheap used turntable, now all i need is to find a vacuum....

i have enough albums that could use some cleaning

i'll probably pick up that goldring/qed brush

where is the cheapest place to pick up a goldring 1042? most places have it at MSRP $375, but there must be places that sell it cheaper.

LP Gear:
Goldring 1042-375
Ortofon 540MKII-289
Audio Technica AT440MLa-84.95
Audio Technica is not as good as the Ortofon and the Goldring is almost as good as the Ortofon.Close call.
