Hello,

Looking for an open headphones around $600 for a first person shooter. Game is Rainbow Six Siege, so sound is really important for telling where enemies are and if anything is broken or stepped on.

Currently using the akg k240, and previously was using the sennheiser hd 600. Using magni/modi amp/dac.

Thanks!

Personal preference but I do enjoy the DT1990 for gaming and almost use it exclusively for either Battlefield or Apex through a Geshelli Stack. Have not admittedly played Siege, so I can't speak directly to its audio.

I would assume you using USB, to connect the PC, to the Modi DAC?
If so, does the game Rainbow Six Siege come with any built in function for creating headphone surround sound?
If, no, would that mean you currently game in stereo audio?
And just for my two cents, I might have steered you towards the Beyerdynamic T90 headphones, great clarity.

A Beyer DT1990, might be something as a replacement, I might look into, if my Beyer T90 were lost or broken beyond repair.

I own a lot of headphones and have settled on dt880s with a modmic as my everyday gaming headphones due to soundstage/ positional audio cues and general comfort. A lot better for this purpose, IMHO, than sennheisera hd6xx line of which I own 3.

How does it compare to the dt990? Heard the 990 was better for gaming since it's more open?

990?
I'm assuming you mean DT1990?
The DT990 is a very open headphone, I would guess that technically, the DT990 would be considered more open then the DT1990.

Yeah that. I actually ended up ordering a pair of dt 880's yesterday. Hope it's a bit better for gaming and music.

I think you'll be happy with that choice. The DT1990s are excellent, but the 990 was a bit lacking in detail for shots, footsteps, etc. because they seemed much more open.

Okay loved having my akg k240, but it's falling apart, and I hope this will be a nice upgrade. What do you think I'll notice mvoing from the akg to the dt 880?
