Right now I own the DT770s, but it's rough not being able to hear people knock on my door heh. So I'm looking for some opens. Can anyone recommend some cans around $200 that are certainly not lacking in bass but not bass heavy either?

I've owned a pair of these, and while they sound very warm and pleasant, I want something more aggressive. The bass is not very impressive as well.

hmm, they don't have overly blown up bass but they are nice and defined. If you heard a pair that wasn't broken in, the bass is thin

If you like the 770s and want the closest sounding open version, save up for the dt990 -32 ohm now on sale from meier for $270 including worldwide shipping

I wouldn't recommend HD-595's for electronica. They just don't have that required V shape that adds so much to electronica.

Why not move on to the DT990? Still keeping that V shape but being open, I think that might be the best option.

Old DT990 Pro is practically open version of DT770. New DT990 is improved in about every way and doesnt have recessed mids.

I haven't heard the old 990s but the new ones do still have recessed mids. But if the OP likes the beyer sound, then the 990s recessed mids shouldn't be worrysome

That thing is heavily debated here. Some say yes, others hell no. Perhaps its about amplification, perhaps its about difference between different ohm models, who knows. But newer should have less recessed mids than in older atleast.

Well uh.. i don't think you can hear people knocking that much more
But if you want an upgrade as well, i'll echo the DT990 suggestion.. I enjoyed mine a lot when i had it

Hmm, i'll agree, grado mids yes..
But sennheiser mids, when i had both (2003 DT880 and HD580) it seems that they're very similar sounding headphones, the main difference seems to be the highs

EDIT: BTW, that was ur 1500th post, congrats headphoneus supremus!

Seems like so. In frequency graphs atleast all three headphones follow quite same pattern in mids, but highs (and bass) are quite humped up in DT990, more than DT880.
