I love the sound of my ER-4P, both with the S cable (using my Go-Vibe 6) and straight out of my iPod. The clarity and detail is amazing to me. So I'm thinking about picking up a set of full size cans for use at home, and was wondering what people would recommend? I tried some Sennheiser HD280 pros and haven't been particularly impressed. A friend lent me some Grado SR125s, and those are more to my taste, but I still don't think they have the detail that my Ety's do. What would y'all recommend?

You should try auditioning some other higher-end Grados.

Sony MDR-SA5000? Might be a bit too chilly, though..

Ultrasone Proline 750s match (and IMO exceed) the top end and midrange performance of the ER4P but add the much needed midbass / bass for a tonally balanced experience. Highly recommended!

From my experience, it is pretty easy to go from ER4P to Allesandro MS2i or Grado SR225. As for the detail, nothing I've tried could really touch the detail of the ER4P.
For me (confirmed Etyholic) the favorite open cans to actually listen to are K501 and HD580, though neither one is as detailed as the Etys are. The SA5000 and CD3000* do deliver detail that to my ear exceeds that of the Etys, but their overall sound isn't as pleasing to me as that of the Etys, K501 or HD580.

Have you also listened to the K701? If so, what do you think of it compared to the ER-4S?

I spent a little time with one at a meet. It's a very good headphone with, as far as I could tell in those minutes, all of the K501's strengths. The bass seemed a touch strong for my personal taste, but really that's just me. Overall I liked it a lot, but oddly I didn't really desire one of my own.
Compared to the ER-4S, I don't think I can say. I wasn't listening for that.
