Right now Im using an hr-2 with my senn 650/zu.

Im looking for a more guteral sound from it. Right now its TOO balanced, and If there is an op amp that keeps those sweet mids and highs and puts a little more emphasis on the bottom end, Id love to know which ones might do that! Stock ad797's are in it now!

Thanks in advance,
k.s.

could try the ad8610's if your looking for superior detail also the opa637's and 627s ... i like the 637s over the 627's myself for that laid back sound ..

One thing that I heard as I switched Op Amps was that there is more of a difference between manufacturers than between different models of Op Amps from the same manufacturer. For example the AD's had a character that was different than the OPA's.

Do a search I know ppl did some swapping of components that I did not have available and I know he found one that he really liked. Was it the 8610?

Thanks again guys...

If the ad 8610 or 8065 sounds similar to the 797 with more bottom end emphasis(since they are same manufacturer) It will be awesome.

The LT1363 is the op amp that the guy who moded my cdp uses and says its a great op amp as hes tried many.

I cant afford the opa 637s right now. Wish I could.....

thanks again, Ill look up the ppl recomendation...

Ordered em from arrow.com

Will be here around tuesday.

Ill post a small impression.

The ad797s are great, but just a little weak on the bottom end.
If it had a slight bit more slam it be perfect.

Hopefully I wont sacrafice anything else if I do indeed gain else where....

The nice thing about swapping the op amps is that the investment is relatively small and there is no soldering involved. At anytime you can change or go back to one you enjoyed.

Hey KShaft,
Please post and let us know how the change of op amp affects the sound for you. I am thinking of pairing the HR-2 with some 650s and want to make sure I get enough deep, rich, and guttural bass out of the pairing.
Thanks

Just a pair of special tweezers for grabbing the op amp. They are at Radio Shack and are dirt cheap.

After trying many different ones I would give them 3-4 days of burn in before you do any comparisons. The changes are small but so are the differences between op amps. Give them a little time to reach their full potential.
