Looking to get a nice system set up for gaming and music enjoyment. should i hit the soundcard angle or hold back, use onboard audio, and get an amp.

I bought the SE-90. The sound was a huuuge upgrade over my old Hercules Game Theatre XP. Was it worth it? An emphatic YES. The improvement in sound quality was easily worth what I paid for it. But I have no idea if there's anything else out there that I'd be even happier with...

I haven't seen any comparison's here between the SE-90 and the Chaintech, EMU or RME cards -- which are the ones people normally recommend here. It will probably sound much better than the Audigy 2. Though if you really wanted a Sound blaster type card, you might as well wait for X-Fi.

I have the HD-650's and they are certainly really nice, but you will definitely need a decent amp to get the most out of them. That said, you will also get dramatic improvements over onboard sound.

Maybe down the road i'll pick up the x-fi or something, just wanted to try something different, the x-fi will only be 130 though, instead of 200.
