I'm sure this has been discussed before but since the search feature has gone missing again ...

I was wondering what the quality of the music available from online stores was? Are the files lossless or are they encoded at lower rates? Does it vary from site to site?

Hard to find lossless.

AllofMP3.com is one of the few to offer that option (along with about every other one).

iTMS is 128 AAC. Real is 192 AAC. eMusic is -aps LAME MP3. Most of the rest are 128 WMA.
