I'm looking to begin playing the electric guitar, but I'm totally new to the instrument. Besides going to local music shops whenever I need an opinion on something guitar related, what resources would you guys recommend for reviews, beginners' advice, etc. on equipment? I don't care about anything else that may be on the site, such as techniques, just a sort of Head-Fi for guitars would be great.

It's been a few years since I spent any time there and I don't know if this has got exactly what you're looking for, but it's a great resourse for musicians.

try jam session-- don't remember the URL but just google "guitar forums jam session" or something like that, and you'll find it. I hung out there for a little while and it has nice people, it's a good place for beginners.

I like The Gear Page. Nice friendly little forum. If you're looking for a Fender, there's always the Fender Forum, but I hate that place. The forum operator is a Fender Nazi and throws out any anti-Fender threads. Waay too tied in with the company. He also likes to rape you for a $30 "donation" to post any classifieds.
