One really important question. What stores can I look into that provide hands-on audiophile experience? (USA)

So what stores are out there that cater to the audiophile crowd? Such as allow for hands-on use with DACs, Amps, and headphones. I want to learn more about warm sounds, closed and open cans, wide and narrow sound stages but it's hard when you don't have an arsenal of experts and tools to do it.

any ideas?

Looks like there's a Pittsburgh meetup being planned; If their plans come through you'll be able to try all kinds of gear and discuss equipment and music with other head-fiers. It's a great way to learn and experience what's available.

See this thread:

But to answer your question directly -- look up audio stores in your area and see if any sell the kind of boutique gear that is frequently discussed here. Almost every high-end store with a good reputation allows customers to try out equipment before buying -- either in listening rooms or to take home (as long as you pay a deposit for the privilege). Now, the catch is that there aren't many high-end stores that cater extensively to headphone listeners. but some do. The best way to fnd out is by asking...
