i'm leaning towards this sort of an approach, likely with a zhaolu v2 dac/amp powering.
contenders:
relaxed (studying, reading; also detailed listening to jazz or classical):
hd600, 650, dt880, k501,
rocking: (headbanging, toe-tapping, classic rock, metal, rap, trance)
325i, hf-1, keep my sr60's
i guess i can't think of a non-grado.....
OR..............
k701 for everything.....
i think in the end i'd prefer to just have one pair of phones; i don't really want to change my phones for different types of music; i just want one pair to do it all well, give me detail, clarity, comfort, and more than anything to feel as "live" as possible. the other thing is that my ears are rather sensative to brightness; my sr60's are difficult to wear for a long time because of this, and i sold my ms-1's a long time ago for the same reason.
i have to be honest and say that most of the time when i'm listening to music i'll be doing something else: more than likely reading a book or studying. of course i'll have time for dedicated listening, but it will be a bit in the minority. i need a great pair of cans i can just keep on wearing. then again, it was headphones that first got me to actually sit still and JUST listen to the music
btw: just went to see the CU-Boulder chambre orchestra perform some mozart etc. and man, i'd really encourage everyone to find out what live performances you can get in on. audiophilia is about reproducing such beauty, and alas it really cannot; get out and experience some live acoustic unamplified, unaltered beauty
so much free music to be had at universities and the like.....awesome
