Now that I am settling in with my PPX3 Slam, I have to make some choices, as to what cans are staying and going. The biggest dilemma that I am having, is between the SA5K or the DT880. Both are very similar to me, with the sony giving a bit more detail, but not as comfortable as the beyer. Please give me your impressions on the two, and which one you prefer, and why.
The pros and cons are pretty equal between the two, except for comfort and efficiency. I feel the DT880 has a warmer presentation, while the detail on the sony is incredible. The bass is a bit fuller with the DT880's.
Also, the 880's are harder to drive then the sony's. I feel like there might be a time when I might want to crank something up, but for the most part of my listening, that will never be the case.
Interesting, I have 880 and waiting for 5k to arrive. Would I soon face the same problem???? Why didn't you post this a week ago??? By the way, are you still willing to keep both 600 and 650?? I assume the only rs1 could feel safe in your home
Wow, I own both the DT 880's & SA5K's and I don't find them similar enough where I would ditch one over the other.......I like them both.......Good Luck!
I used to own DT880 and had a loaner SA5K with me for a while. If I had to choose between two, I would keep SA5K over DT880. To my ears, SA5K sounds tad bit more delicate, detailed and slightly more spacious (soundstage) and more resolving than DT880. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying DT880 is inferior, but they are two different breeds and SA5K has more desirable qualities for me except for comfort.
Somehow I feel cheechoz knows what to do, they are not his two very first cans with one week experience for each. For someone who really doesn't know - one of the possible solutions: pretend that you've sold any of them. Feel better? Don't use this "already sold" one for 2 weeks. Don't miss it at all - you are on a right track.
