Loved this! Was unaware of this release, and have not listened to Oregon in years.

Nice. Saw Frisell not long ago, playing a double-bill - first he played as part of Ambrose Akinmusire's Owl Song trio, then with his own "Double Trio." Great night of music.

I just posted these comments about the album over on the What Are You Listening To thread. FYI, mate.Nice. Saw Frisell not long ago, playing a double-bill - first he played as part of Ambrose Akinmusire's Owl Song trio, then with his own "Double Trio." Great night of music.
Edit: Well, it's not easy music to critique, that's for sure. It's very complex and the presence of the orchestras opens up many options for Bill and his arranger Michael Gibbs (who is an interesting dude). Requires careful and critical listening ... not a head banger by no means. Some pieces are beautiful and at other times I just wished they would get on with it. The smaller orchestra, Umbria Jazz Orchestra from Italy, is better suited to this kind of gig. The Brussels Philharmonic is great, but IMO they're a big too large and polished for this music. I will listen again, because I like enough of it to not just give up after one session. Oh, and too, the drummer Rudy Royston is tremendous and I had no knowledge of him until now. He's also a band leader and worth exploring further. Hope this helps!

Big band jazz ... reminds me of Snarky Puppy. This from their 4th album, released in Sept 2023.
