I'm fully expecting a resounding "no" to this question, but I thought it would be worth asking.  I have an old stereo which still functions really well and it has a headphone output plug on it, I'm wondering if it would function as an amp?  The stereo is a JVC MX-GT700, and the specs are found here:

I have a feeling these stats in particular might be the ones that would be helpful, but I'm completely new to the amp game and basically have no idea what I'm talking about... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Once you've heard better, yes, that would most likely sound like poo.  But until you get something better, you may be pleasantly surprised.  Give it a go and see what happens.

I suggest a mini^3 amp from AMB Audio. I still can't part with mine (build the high voltage version) its currently powering my ultrasones. Its about 80 bucks once everythings been ordered. Excluding the 50 dollar metal face plates.
