Hey guys!

Stalked these forums a long time ago, and even made some purchases based upon it.

Long story short, this is my first post here. Back in either 2012 or 2013 my HD598’s were stolen as well as a homemade headphone amplifier (bit of a vacuum tube nerd.)

I find myself spending more and more money on hi-fi as I get older.

What recommendations are therein the sub-$600 market for open ears? My 598s were wonderful with a little power.

Can you describe your preferred sound signature? What you want and don't want? What is your source going to be? If you have close to 600 to spend, you can definitely find an significant upgrade to your 598.

Yeah, something similar would be nice. Looking for a nice maybe not so known headphone with the same or similar airiness.

I like a very neutral, reference-like sound signature typically. Open ears are preferable, but if there are closed ears cans on the market now with really wide sound stages I’m all ears (pun intended!)

I’d love to hear recommendations, and even for your favorite amps! I’ll post up reviews upon purchase.

I hear the dan clark audio aeon flow open and closed are very good. Keep in mind there is a re tuned aeon flow closed called the aeon RT that is only 500. But if you want open go for that. Cant go wrong with the senn 650/58x/600/660s or the the hifiman sundara

Sennheiser HD 660s
Ibasso SR2
If you don't want to spend that much, the Drop Sennheiser HD 58x is an absolute steal at 150 bucks.

Current budget for these cans is about $600.00, next will be shy of $2000.00 for some serious stuff. I'll check into the 660's and SR2 reviews, as well as the drop buy! Thanks so much!

EDIT: Thoughts or opinions on either ether the Meze 99 Classics or the Denon AH-D5200s, two closed ears I'm looking at right now.

Classics are wonderful. Full of energy, full and engaging mids with some weight behind them. Rich and organic tonality. Treble and the presence region are not bright or extended, rather rolled off and lacking air. Excellent choice for treble sensitive folks. Bass is a bit bloomy and definitely present. If you get the Noir, I'd recommend using the 2nd set of smaller pads it comes with (helps with the bloom). By far my favorite budget friendly closed back for rock n roll. Guitars and vocals sound lively.
