I still just replaced the old disintegrating ear-cups on this oldie but goodie.

Now I was hoping i could convert this to take shorter cables. I've had the super long one in a zip tie forever.

I was hoping I could get my hands on one of these connectors and a retrofit a 3.5mm female plug in there? I tried searching but could not find any threads since this headphone is so old. This is a common mod on Beyerdynamic headphones.

Any particular sources I could check out?

Alternative, is it easy to cut the cable on this end and re-solder the 4 cables back into this connector? (i'm pretty good with an iron due to RC cars).

After posting I've been looking to see if I could buy a replacement part of newer hd 5 series headphones that would be plug n play (the female 2.5mm part). The cable being removable would be the added benefit.

Can't find any teardowns or part schematics of any of the newer he 5 series.

Probably end doing what you just said
