Happy Holidays everyone.
I was in the audio business for about 30 years.. Got out about 17 years ago Stax was the end all be  all at the time..I was thinking about getting some new headphones for the holidays. I left a page up on my computer looking at the Audioengine D1, My wife decided to buy it for me for the holidays. I ordered a pair of the v moda Microsoft had on sale. Don't like the feel of a closed design. I'm a little over 60 so I defiantly have some high end hearing loss. Listen mainly to Clapton,Queen and some dance /electronic music. Don't want to spend any more than $300.00 if I keep the audioengine $400.00 if I send it back. Any input would be greatly appreciated and again Happy Holidays.

Is it really the closed design you didn't like, or is it the heavy bass and/or uncomfortable fit of the Vmoda M100?

I would say the I found them uncomfortable and they feel claustrophobic. I haven't given them a chance to break in,but the comfort is definitely an issue. The bass did seem overpowering though.
