My 17yo HD540 Reference IIs still sound fantastic (to me), and so I undertook the process of cleaning them up last night. There was some mould on the pads and the foam was loose.
Urgh, how's the 'brown water' after rinsing
Anyway, so the foam that sits behind the driver on one side has deteriorated badly as you can see. Should I get some thin foam and just cut a new piece out to size, or are there better suggestions? I'm assuming leaving no foam there is not going to do the tonal balance any favours?
