Hello guys, sorry basically a beginner in DIY, but anyways here's the story:
I just purchased an old amp, and there is a distracting hum on the left channel. I was told that this could be because the capacitors "dried out". Now this hum is present on my HD558 and 650 (but less so), however on my much less sensitive vintage T20 I don't hear it.

So was wondering, if I were to continue using this amp with something of low sensitivity, could I be causing any harm to my headphones?
One thing that I know would cause harm is DC offset, but that's fine on this amp (reads 1.5mV).

In my opinion, you won't harm the cans just due to the hum. Hum is pretty common on old amps (even new DIY ones) and it's usually just annoying but not harmful. However, if the hum is caused by a failing component, and that component ultimately goes completely bad, that could be problematic.

I would take a look inside the amp and see if you can spot and broken caps/resistors.

Someone with more experience dealing with this might want to chime in...
