Naturally, it comes out after I order $3500 worth of dream system compontents.

Actually, it was just a matter of time till one of these came a long. It just makes so much sense.

Wonder what mods it needs.

LMAO. Only on Head-Fi.

Actually at $6,000 I think it comes with an engineer that will make mod recommendations and actually do them for you.

the question is which will sound better, a CD or FLAC/lossless file played from this, from a computer with a high-end external DAC, or from a high-end traditional stand alone player.

that's what i really want to know.

I wonder how much better it will sound than my $300 Squeezebox.

I'm willing to bet not $5700 worth.

I love McIntosh stuff, always have, but I think this thing is way overpriced. It appears to me that they have bought into the need for high end components to be "reassuringly expensive".

Good point. I have a Infrant ReadyNAS and it only cost me $1300 including 4 500GB drives.

I think for that price you could buy a Squeezebox, a NAS box, a computer and still have money left over to buy a nice DAC.

$6,000, I didn't see the price because I was in a rush. I feel better already.

Actually at that price the previous posters are right, you could build your own system with mirrored drives and still be ahead of the 'tosh.

But it's obviously targeted at that wealthy group of early adopters that just must have the latest and greatest.

Not to worry, there will be cheaper and better clones coming.

But that's just it: they're already here.

If that is the case, I guess he'll have to wait a while longer.

I just don't understand the need for a PC-less system, with the state of wireless ethernet now, I can't see the reason to pay so much more.

But to each his own I guess.

LOL

I actually heard this at the McIntosh Labs and they had this cool interface with a tablet remote. I cant really say how good it sounded since all of it was Mcintosh gear that I never heard before.

I will take one!
Just ship it my way, and I will post a long review in return.

It is a PC...albeit a very pretty one.

I'm not so sure having a 750GB hard drive whirring inside an audio device is a good idea.
