As you may have read in another thread the wire on my HD580s is broken so I have been relegated to using my sony mdr v600s. Admittedly the sonys are no comparison to the sennheisers but I just listened to Donny Hathaway - For All We Know on the sonys and it sounds AMAZING.

Can anybody figure out what is happening here?

What is your source?

The 580's need a good amp to sound good, otherwise they will sound lean...
and the comparison to the bloated bass of the V600's triggered that "Bass! Happiness!" part of you, lol.

absolutofft,

if your drivers are intact, and if you do not want to send them in for repairs, and if you don't mind them being hacked to the point of no re-sell, and don't mind voiding the warranty, send them to me and I'll put a new cable on for you. is Mogami 2549 good enough? or i'll trade you a set of akg k401s.

Haven't got the source really covered yet, but I admit that you need an amp for them to really shine. Maybe you've been away from your Senns for too long?
