The X-3000 look to be much smaller than the standard size ES cd player right? I remember backing out from the X5000 due to the 220 volts issues. Man.....this could be a really good setup.

Yes the x3000 is very compact. This unit is 220 volts like the x5000 but he had a transformer to match the voltage. The x3000 is an absolutely beautiful player and so cool to operate.

Where can one find more info on the X3000 and X5000 and where are they available for purchase?

Go_vtec can shed more light on this, but I remember him telling us that he had to the X3000 from Australia (of all places). He mentioned that it is almost impossible to find.

X3000 and X5000 usually surface once every two or three month in Ebay or Audiogon. There is one unit right now in yahoo japan with a reserve price of nearly 1000 bucks.

Here's the website:

The X3000 and X5000 are Japanese domestic units only. The voltage will be 220 volt, so you will need a proper step down transformer.

European version is 220V where as JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) one is at 100V (both 50/60Hz). Yes, they are slightly narrower but longer than typical CD player in state. For redbook playing, it's one of the best sounding redbook only player. I specially like its gold aluminum face plates (which matches my Corda and Headroom perfectly). It took me literally 6 months to track down X3000 at Austraila. Shipping was outragerously expensive (around $150 aussie dollars via DHL), but it only took two days. X5000 is said to be faster and more refined, but too darn expensive to be practical. I rather buy SCD-1 or SCD-777ES since they are even better sounding with similar transport (except for see-through lid).

Here are some pictures of X3000 for you guys:

There are only available in a used market. Typical selling price of X3000 is around $400-$600 where as X5000 goes for $700-900. Although I've seen it go even higher sometimes. I think getting SCD-777ES is more practical since you can get it for around $1450-$1500. 777ES was more dynamic and faster than X5000, plus features SACD playback. 777ES is more solidly built (around 60lbs). Of course, for redbook playback X3000 is a dang good for mere $500, lacking just a touch of dynamic and speed over more expensive players (such as XA777ES or XA9000ES). Hmm, may be I should sell mine and get a used 777ES for my office

If the transport is up to the quality the player looks to be. I would use one as a transport only and add an outboard DAC.

That transport is one of the nicest units I have ever used or seen. It has a weighted puck to keep the cd more stable and the laser mechanism is extremely well isolated. The whole chassis is rock solid and the smaller size makes it even less likely to have resonance issues. I think it would be an awesome transport.

Wow, that Sony CD player is the best-looking player I've ever seen! I'm going to try and get ahold of one to use as a transport, it looks incredible!

Guys, this looked like a fun meet and I'm glad that you guys got together despite the small numbers.

That Sony player looks cool and it looks like you guys had some great gear there. I'll try to make the next one if you guys give me some time to plan.

Mike,

They're at your disposal. But don't keep these guys waiting for your comments on the what you've heard so far. I don't think they can take it!
