Follow this thread!! It saved my desktop PC.
I use a combination of spybot and hijack this with firefox.

STAY AWAY from MS IE!!! I use firefox, netscape and then if I really need to I use IE. Every time I use IE I run hijack this and always find a couple suspicious looking things. Minimal problems with netscape and even less with firefox.

Off a fresh install of Windows, here's what I use... no popups, no viruses, no ads, nothing at all...

Windows Corporate Edition SP2
Mozilla Firefox 1.5
BitDefender PRO
Just got MS Antispyware... it found nothing.

This is over an encrypted wireless network...

We're on the cusp of a system upgrade, so soon, it will be all gravy.

Gravy, I tell you, gravy!

I just added a Firefox extension from their website from one of the top 5's, and it's supposed to block these newer flash based ads. Hoping it works!

Also tried the microsoft scan and trendware scan...both found new things! There are a bunch of these free scanners out there now, I don't think it's worth paying for anti-virus that won't catch everything in the first place.

update: my firefox was using 200mb memory earlier with just 4 windows open...I think the 4 extensions I installed are bogging me down?
