I have had the DT 880 250 Ohm headphones  for a couple months now and haven't had the money to buy a good amp for them. I feel like they lack that "punch" of bass that I like.

Here are my questions:

1)Is there a noticeable difference with and without the amp, if there isn't a big difference then I don't think that I could justify buying an amp for them.

2)Do you think that the O2 amp will power the DT 880's properly, if not, any recommendations?

I just feel like I may be missing out if I don't have an amp for these, so far, great headphones.

Thanks for helping me. :D

I have the O2 and DT880 250 ohm combination. When the phones are plugged into my iPad, the result is what I call "OK" rather mediocre sound, similar to cheaper headphones. When plugged into the amp, the difference is significant, particularly in the bass. I am quite satisfied with the results. The O2 has well over the power spec to drive 250 ohm phones. At half volume, it gets quite loud.

Thanks man, I usually am not the one to spend 130 dollars on something like an amp so I need people like you  to reassure me. If the sound is significantly better, then I will probably just buy the O2 then.

The Schiit Magni headphone amplifier, is cheaper ($99) and should drive the DT880 Pro 250-Ohm.

Hi,

You should also consider Fiio E10 and Fiio E07K/E17.
(DAC/Amps)

E10 is cheaper and it's not portable. E07K and E17 are both portables, being E17 slightly more refined.
E07K has probably the best price-performance ratio.

Best Luck!
