So, it looks like I will be going to a conference at NYU around the end of October.
However, I am not really familiar with area etc and need some advice on hotels close to the conference.
Any ideas?

I go to NYC frequently but I'm usually a daytripper. I stayed at a real nice upscale hotel called The "Library Hotel." Quite an experience but an expensive one. I have also stayed at the "Sheraton On The Hudson" across the Hudson River in Weehawken, New Jersey. There's a ferry immediately outside the hotel that takes you across the river, it's really a great bargain. From the ferry drop-off point you could take one of their free buses, or a cab downtown to NYU. I also included the NYCVisit link through which you could check out other options...(the last link goes to hotels close to the NYU Campus...)

I think Doug had some good ideas. It's very easy to get to NYU, so don't feel the need to stay in Greenwich Village.

If I had a conference and could spend a moderate amount of money, I'd probably stay at the W Hotel in Union Square ($300+ a night). I've stayed there on a number of occasions and it's not bad. The Library Hotel does look interesting, I've passed by it a number of times but never stayed.

I also agree that looking into NJ is a good idea. Consider staying like in the Doubletree hotel in Jersey ($150+) and taking the Path train in. The ferry is nice though if the weather is nice.

Best regards,

-Jason

I guess diogenes dilemma was resolved. I was hoping that this thread would generate futher recommendations that might be of use to me and to others. Any other recommendations for lodging/eating/playing in NYC?
