NTSC videos

I have a UK spec JVC video recorder which says it will play NTSC tapes,there are a couple of video tapes I can get cheap second hand (that aren't on DVD yet).Will the JVC play the tapes OK?

having had some expeience with European NTSC "capable" VCRs I can tell you the following.

The tapes must be recorded at SP. Otherwise the picture might be unwatchable in many different ways. I've had tapes that play and have seen tapes that dont play.

So if you cannot try them out before buying it is a risk.


Get one and if it plays well get all the other ones too.


First though make sure they are SP recorded in the first place.

Does this, on playback in NTSC backwards convert into PAL for TV reception?

If not, bear in mind that not all UK TVs are NTSC compatible (although I believe most Sonys / Panasonics to be)
