ghiberti, that is a very nice set-up there! Please post impressions! Did you have to send your SA5000 for the recabling to be done?

yes, I buyed one of'em and sent it to Drew.
I have not listened to SA5000 with stock cable
rolleyes.gif

but as I heard, it has very sibilant high-even modded one's also very sibilant with some amps,
modanna's hung up makes me chilled
very_evil_smiley.gif
-and narrow sound stage. but with this set-up,
now, I cannot believe that kind of saying. it's still in a little lean side but it sounds sweet and has
very decent sound stage-it has laid-back sound!-. I think Solo's tube-like sound sig's
softening SA5000's harsh character. actually, I prefer this set-up to any
RS-1 set-up I can make now. I think some more burn-in make them sound
really good

How do you know they sound better with the new cable over the old one? You mention they now have more sound stage... at stock these have huge sound stage, second to K701 but anything more would be too much. You also mentioned 'laid-back sound'(You must be hearing the tub amp) ~ this isn't the SAs I know... they are very upfront like the grados.

It looks nice, and sure it should be better than stock, but its no doubt overkill for the rest of your system.

did I say it sounded better with new cable over the old one? I don't think so.
what I said is just, with this set-up, I do not sympathize with some kinds of grumbles for
unmodded and mismatched SA5000. isn't it?

and as for me, it has laid-back sound. more precisely, it is more laid-back than I expected.
it's less than HD650 but definitely more than Grados-it's obvious-. I took RS-1 for example.
you should have taken this into account. anyway, Graham Slee has warm and laid-back sound.
I think the overall sound sig of this league is due to that of Slee's because I can't experience this
character with other amps like headmaster and SR-71. yes, difference is not that huge.
but difference is difference. do you have the same rig with mine? It seems you need to have yours
modded with Black D and get a Solo to experience what I'm saying.

and I don't understand why you come to think it's overkill for the rest of my system consists of
Earmax AE and Sugdens. actually, I'm also waiting for GS-X to arrive. I regret not to make'em
balanced.

*and I do not think forward sound is campatible with huge sound stage.

of course, you can take it like that.
but, as you know, we can only say something from a
relative point of view, right?
yes, it has punchy sound but it's also warm and -a little more-
laid-back and airy compared to other amps I have
like headmaster SR-71 and Hornet
