I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I'm still lost. I'm asking because I just got a good deal on HD580s a few days ago and my pair is probably coming in a few days. I know the difference between the two for most ears is supposed to be fairly minor and probably only apparent on good gear, but it still bothers me a bit. Chances are, I'll love my 580s when i get them, but I'm considering selling them and getting HD600s for the peace of mind

.

This place is evil. I haven't even gotten my 580s yet, and I'm already considering moving up for the peace of mind. "Sorry about your wallet" indeed.

The drivers in both the HD600 and HD580's are the same. I very seriously doubt that any difference could be heard between the two. What I would pay attention to, is whether or not your HD580 have the new drivers or not (with white film on the baffle). That will make the bigger difference.

A grill (plastic on 580, steel on 600) makes difference. So get HD600 grills (about 6 bucks for each) and HD650 cable if you also want a cable upgrade.

the difference between HD580s and HD600s is very minor.... they use the same drivers... only the headband and grills are different

a grill swap on those 580s will get you to HD600 sound... the different headband material from my experience borrowing a friend's HD600s makes no noticable difference to my ears but the difference in the grills makes a small difference in the sound...

you'll have to call sennheiser with the part number for the grills and order a pair (i think they are sold individually and not as a pair)

Alright, I'll look out for that when they get here.

Do as the other say and get the HD600 grills, it does make a difference.

Sorry, forgot to mention that in my original post.

Ok, I just called Sennheiser and ordered the grills. Unfortunately, they said didn't have the HD650 cable in stock.

In all seriousness though, I had both the 580s and 600s and cannot remember liking the 580s as much. I don't remember the 580s having as much impact and treble extension. I never remembered realistic sounding cymbals on the 580s while the 600s do have that.

There was also some tweaking on the HD600's. I think there is very clearly a difference, though as many have said it is not day and night.
