I apologize for bringing up something other than headphones..but I believe the problem I have with my speakers (Tapco 6925).

TAPCO - Audio Gear with Vibe

They used to sound great, very crisp and warm.

But now they sound like I'm playing from a phonograph or something, with alot of dull overpowering bass.

The mids and highs are extremely recessed and have that retro sound.

Is it possible that I blew the speakers?

I have a system like the following

A Mackie unpowered 16 channel mixer
Alesis EQ
an 800 watt amp with gain crontrols.

I just would like to know, what is the cause of such a drastic deterioration of sound...and if you happen to know similar symptoms with headphones, please say so, as I'm sure they can be related.

Thanks

(If this thread needs to be moved or deleted, please do so. I just figured maybe there'd be some people who know of both headphones and speakers.)

Make sure that the wire leads (red and black) aren't reversed between the amp and speaker. Sounds like that's what the problem is to me. Also you might want to try the 'high-end' forum, they deal a lot more with full sized speakers over there.
