North American music sales down in 2008

Vinyl is a very small drop. There was an article on Cnet this week which I can't seem to find that indicated that despite what people think, CD sales are still pretty strong. Sales of digital downloads aren't expected to surpass CD sales until 2012 at the earliest.

"The top selling vinyl albums were Radiohead's In Rainbows (26,000 units), the Beatles' Abbey Road (16,500) and Guns 'N Roses' Chinese Democracy (13,600)"

So the best selling piece of vinyl moved only 26,000 units? That is a drop in the bucket. Overall, though, vinyl moved .5% of all sales. I guess that's sorta on the charts. Funny that 40 year old beatles album also beat Axl Rose's multi-year project. Selling !3,600 albums should about pay for 5 seconds of one song on Chinese Democracy.
