Hello,

I've bought a few months ago some pcb's and components from a fellow head-fier who has no time anymore for diy stuff.

I enjoy myself a lot with soldering but I don't have much (any) knowledge about electronic stuff.

Now I'm finally ordering all the missing parts at mouser and digikey.

I have these caps RIFA 250VDC 0.22μF blue box.
Can I use them for millett hybrid C5L/R, C8L/R, C3L/R, C4L/R? Are these good enough or should I order those boutique caps?

Those positions on the MAX are not critical. I haven't used these particular caps, but really - any reasonable quality box film cap will probably do a good job in those positions. As long as they fit, of course.

Thank you tomb!

They fit perfect.
The board I have is not the MAX but the previous one. Shouldn't make a difference right?

You're right - I didn't catch that. On the original Millett, C3L/R and C4L/R are traditionally boutique positions. C3L/R bypasses the C2 electrolytics. Both form the cathode bypass around the tube grid. As such, it won't affect sound that much if it's a run-of-the-mill box film cap, but if you use a bloated-mids boutique film cap there, it may severely impact the frequency response of the amp. C4L/R bypasses the C7 electrolytics. Both are completely in the signal and will affect the music directly. However, a bloated-mids film cap is a little more forgiving here.

Remember, though, that the Millett is designed to use box film caps bypassing regular power electrolytics for a good sound without boutiques. If you want to upgrade, though, C7 and C4 should be your first choice, then C2 next. C3 should be as neutral a film cap as possible (box film caps are neutral).

Thanks for the info tomb!
I'm gonna put those blue drops in it.
If building this amp goes well I might build a MAX. Then I'm gonna use boutique stuff
