"Nokia N8" and "feeding a (portable) DAC with USB on-the-go"

Did you disable the "charge on usb" on the fiio e7 ? I plugged mine in the C7 and worked directly, didn't even get a notice saying that it's not compatible :xf_eek:

Also, I think that it does not have the juice to drive a DAC without battery, that's why it won't work with the E10.

For anyone wondering, the N8 will NOT work with the Fiio E17 via USB OTG.  At least, mine won't, and I've had success with other DAC/Amps.

Just changed the title, this thread might be usefull to those who need information about using a phone as digital source. Nowadays nobody cares about the N8 in general anyhow.

Camera is still in the top 2.  Will be top 3 when the HTC Titan II rolls out it's 16MP behemoth.

Interesting about the E17....

Are you using the D5 in your car by any chance?  I use the coax output from the D5 in my car system to feed an Audison Bit1 from the N8.  Works like a charm.

N8 + Ibasso D-Zero:  Not recognized, the phone can't tell there is anything on the end of the cable.

N8 + Audinst HUD-MX1 or Nuforce uDac:  error message "Partially supported USB device some features may be unavailable"  Music continues to play through the phone speaker, I wonder if the s/pdif converter is working.  I don't have anything with s/pdif inputs to test it with.

Yeah, I had the same experience with the D-Zero.  So far, I've only had success with the Fiio D5 and E7 (both driverless)

I'm not sure if the HTC Titan II's camera will be better.  16MP means very little (unless you are shooting for poster sized prints, with a mobile phone...).  The size of the sensor would be more telling.

" USB Cable Error Please Disconnect Cable"

The Audioengine D1 DAC is powered from the USB, so could that be the error?

Shame because it sounds superb with my Sony Vaio laptop

ah bollocks
