I bought a Noble stereo 50k pot but don't know if it is an audio or linear taper. How can I test it to find out? What does the different ohm ratings of pots do to audio. I see them from 10k to 500k. Is one better than another? Why does the Noble pot have 4 pins for each pot? Are all Noble pots good or do I need to be careful and get certain part numbers?
Thanks a lot for the help.

Do you have a multimeter? Connect it up and turn the pot - if it goes from 10 to 20 at the same rate as it goes from 40 to 50 you have a linear pot. The different ratings are the different maximum resistances available - you know how voltage is affected by resistance right? Why they have four pins or whether they are all good is a mystery to me. I have mostly used ALPS blue pots, six pins for one stereo pair.

I need to get a Pot for a DIY CHA-47 amp soon, I'm probably going to get a 20K Panasonic pot but I would like to get something that will work well (I have bad experiences with staticy pots), will this work?
