No sound on yellow side of Sennheiser 414 phones

I have a pair of 414s that I treasure. the yellow side (L?) has gone silent. I keep pushing the cord in (it doesn't move) but no left channel. I started using a pair of Sennheiser HD 477 (closed and a very tight fit) and that's when I started to experience tinnitus! Any tips or tricks on getting my left channel to work on my 414s?
