I'm afraid that if I buy these, they'll charge me the real price without confirming with me first. Do you think they'll do that?

If you have a credit card from Citi or somewhere else that uses virtual CC numbers use one with a limit set to the shipping amount. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to charge you the full amount...
