Dear Headfi,
I bought NHT Sb-1's a while back and have them paired with a cheapy Technics receiver and M&K sub.
It sounds terrible.
Quite frankly, I'm at a loss because the Sb-1s got pretty great reviews back in its day and unless speaker sounds deteriorate over time, I have no idea why it sound so bad. I have seen some reviews note that the Sb-1s need a good receiver in order to power them, but I wonder if that's what is really making the difference since the Technics supposedly give out more 100 watts per channel.
If you have listened to the NHT Sb-1s, could you let me know whether you think it's my set-up or whether it's the speakers? I am debating between buying a new receiver or scrapping the whole set and buying B&Ws or PSBs.
Thanks.
