I think a lot of people eventually end up at DIY for several reasons; but primary are sick of making compromises on sound, the markup on true high-end speakers way too high. There is also a lot of marketing BS to cut through, and a lot of high-end speakers are really just mid-fi with cleaver marketing trying to pass off as Hi-Fi.

There are some pretty nice kits out there that supply you with everything you need including the cabinet. Just some mild soldering and some drill work (pilot holes) and a screw driver are required. This Fountek would kill anything its price range including used. Just don't try to power it with a HTIB *&$) box receiver and expect good results, you'll need a decent receiver or integrated amp.
