I have been wondering about this for a while ever since I started reading on the forum.

There are many posts about getting a DAC and AMP combo for laptops for better sounds to headphones.  But the only audio out I can think of from a laptop is the headphone out.  How do I "play" music out of the USB port digitally so that the signal inputs into a USB in at the DAC/AMP end?

I may be completely out in left field with this question so take it wasy on me.

The DAC acts as an external sound card.

So does that mean that when I plug a D-Zero (let's say) in my USB port, my Windows should recognize it and then I install the right drivers.  Then I select the D-Zero as my soundcard in Windows and then when I play music using Winamp, it will just direct the audio to the D-Zero?  I think I understand now.
