Okay so when users refer to the quantity and the quality of bass what exactly are they referring to?
Also, when one refers to a headphone possessing "good bass" does that mean that the frequency extends very low or instead that the bass is punchy and tight, controlled?

very generally, quantity is extension and/or impact, and quality is how the quantity is achieved and how it affects the rest of the sound.

as an example, for the price, i consider your ATHM50's to have pretty good quantity and quality...there is decent extension and impact without overwhelming the higher frequencies, and the bass is fairly tight and controlled (separation/layering of sub-bass-bass-mid bass). Beats by dre, for example, have outstanding quantity in extension and with the right source fantastic impact, but the sound is loose ("flabby") and overwhelms the entire rest of the frequency range.

"good bass" is subjective completely.  as a basshead, i lean towards quantity but others will lean towards quality...with a good set of cans one can achieve both pretty well.
